Black Rock Road traverses a remote volcanic plateau in Lassen National Forest with sweeping views of Mt. Lassen and the surrounding Cascade Range. Lightly traveled and excellent for dispersed camping, it's the Northern California trail scene's hidden gem — volcanic terrain, dramatic landscapes, and far fewer crowds than the Sierra. A great summer destination when Sierra passes are still snowed in.
